Collection
The basis of Centrum Kunstlicht in de Kunst is formed by a collection accumulated by Johan Jansen, who was employed by Philips and who was very much interested in the influence of light on society. At the hand of reproductions of paintings and original engravings from the 17th and 18 the centuries he showed which forms of artificial light existed in the past, how they were used and what was their effect on the environment.

To be able to communicate his ideas to a large public, he organised exhibitions all over the world. With the earnings from these exhibitions he started buying artificial light art from contemporary artists. His collection grew to some 600 works and was ultimately brought into the Foundation Artificial Light in Art. The contemporary art that Jansen collected forms the hart of the museum.
Centrum Kunstlicht in de Kunst possesses works of a.o. Constant, Hans Geipel, Jeroen Henneman, Francois Morellet, Jan van Munster, Joost van Santen, Nicolas Schöffer, Joseph Semah and Thierry Ysebaert.
