Centrum Kunstlicht in de Kunst presents from September 27th 2008 up to januari 25th 2009 inclusive re-ACT, interactive works of art including light.. This exhibition consists of 8 works and spatial installations, which react in different ways on visitors. In November 2007 Centrum Kunstlicht in de Kunst initiated the second edition of the Frits Philips artificial-light-art contest by inviting artists to submit designs for works combining light and interactivity. 86 contestants, both from the Netherlands and abroad answered the invitation. From the proposals, a jury has selected 9, which will be realised by their creators. The results will be shown in re-Act.
The selected works are from:
Paul Baartmans, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

With their joint work Love Hate Punch (2008) Stella Boess and Stefan Gross were declared winners of the Frits Philips Light-art-contest 2008 on September 27th . End of 2007 artist were invited to submit proposals on the theme of “interactivity in combination with light”.
The announcement was made on the occasion of the opening of the exposition Re-ACT, Interactive Light Art, in the Centrum Kunstlicht in de Kunst. The winners were handed 5000 euro and a trophy.
Love Hate Punch is a boxing ball. Visitors are requested to hit it as hard as they can in order to discover the secrets of the work. The jury:” The work is very well done technically and offers beautiful effects in light. When you walk towards it, it is a mysterious, austere, sturdy object. When you start hitting it, you see immediate result, but for those who persevere longer, there is an attractive bonus. On the one hand the work is strong in its simplicity, but on the other it requires a major physical effort of the visitor. Love Hate Punch is therefore the epitome of interactivity”.
The artists about their work: “We made this work, because we were fed up with the fact, that interactive light so often plays on soft, flat emotions. To the contrary we wanted to provoke the fury, that is a normal part of life. The work therefore had to invite explicit intensive physical interaction.Love Hate Punch is part of the exhibition Re-ACT, Interactive Light Art.
